Last March I came across a story in the newspaper about the Broadway premiere of a Canadian Musical called Come From Away.
It’s a story about the people of Gander, Newfoundland, and Labrador, who took in thousands of passengers stranded by 9/11 as their planes were forced to land.
It immediately took me back in my mind to where I was on 9/11 – one of those events that has been etched in our collective consciousness, much like the fall of the Berlin Wall – and I remembered how intense and emotional that time was.

A scene from the musical, Come from Away
From what I gather it had somewhat humble beginnings in 2016, but it has taken off since being acclaimed on Broadway, and it has become rather difficult to get tickets on short notice since then.
As a Canadian and a guy who has spent a lot of time on planes and in airports, (and a fan of great musicals), it’s been on my list to see it, and I think it would be fun to see it with some other travelers!
So, if you’d like to join me, here are the details:
Date: Thursday, November 1, 2018
Time: 8:00 PM
Place: Royal Alexandra Theatre, Toronto

The Royal Alexandria Theatre
I have managed to obtain 20 seats in the Orchestra level, which means no stairs and still a great view.
These will be available to Wheel & Anchor members at a special price of $99 including taxes and fees (which is a pretty good bargain, as these tickets are normally $139).
To secure your spot, please send an email to events@wheelandanchor.ca and your space will be reserved.
If you’d like to come out for dinner and drinks beforehand, closer to the date I will organize something, so once you’re on the list I will keep you updated.
Last thing – don’t forget to bring your tissues, it apparently pulls a bit on the heartstrings. I look forward to seeing you all at this terrific production!
