Why Egypt is so Mindblowing

January 25th, 2020

Greetings from Cairo!

We've only been here in Egypt for 10 days or so, but it feels like thousands of years with all the time-travelling we've been doing!

It has been a truly mindblowing experience to see firsthand the incredible feats of engineering the ancient Egyptians were able to pull off, from the huge columns at the Luxor temple, the colossal statue of Pharaoh Ramses II, and of course the iconic Pyramids of Giza.

I think in some ways it seems all the more incredible to think what they were capable of so many millennia ago, as we stroll about taking pictures with these high-powered computers we carry around with us.

The effort and engineering to execute projects at this scale without the tools of today...it is truly mindblowing.

And I would add a word about the safety here, not that it is 'mindblowing' per se, but I think many people think it's unsafe here for tourists. We have been treated spectacularly well by our hosts and even touring through the Garbage City, one of the poorest neighbourhoods of Cairo, we were only greeted with smiles, waves, and friendliness.

Our trip continues on to another ancient civilization, as we head to Israel to explore there.

Cheers!

Curious to see Egypt for yourself? We've got a magnificent private cruise down the Nile on a beautiful sailboat happening in March 2022...get all the details here!
