What our community had to say in our first Virtual Coffee Connection!

April 11th, 2020

Just a brief note today to recap our first Virtual Coffee Connection that we had this past Thursday.

It was really nice to see all the faces and smiles from our community all over the country, and to hear the general optimism from travellers unable to do what we love most!

There were a number of interesting questions posed during the call about insurance, what will be needed for people to travel again, the cruise industry, and so on. Most of our answers I think were inconclusive, but it was valuable to hear input from others and I think most of us are on the same page about taking this situation day-by-day.

I think another valuable piece of advice from the community was the importance of keeping to routines to maintain a sense of normalcy while we're at home. It's far too easy to get stuck on the couch and even easier to get sucked into a spiral of news or social media, and neither of those things is good for your mental or physical health.

For me it was just nice to see some familiar and new faces that reminds me why we started this thing - it's really about community and sharing time, experiences, and stories with other likeminded folk. Although we can't do it while exploring the globe at the moment, we will in the future! And little connection opportunities like these will bring us all closer to together and set the stage for new friendships later on.

On that note, we're going to do another one on April 23 - perhaps the end will be in sight! Regardless of whether it is or not, join us and we'll either commiserate or celebrate. You can find the link in your newsletter this week and next.

Lastly - there was also a great idea near the end as well about a book club - would you be interested? We can set it up over zoom and connect on a regular basis. If we can't travel physically we can at least do it in our imaginations! If you'd be interested, just send me an email and we'll go from there.

Cheers!
